Jake Overall, a 16-year-old home-schooled high school junior from the Shepherd area, will compete in a professional bull-riding championship in Las Vegas later this year. Overall has competed in bull-riding competitions for the last four years, recently placing second in the San Jacinto County Rodeo.
This is the second time for Overall to qualify for the JR World Finals in the National Rodeo Finals in Vegas. The competition will take place on Dec. 5-9.
Overall’s interest in rodeo began at an early age after watching his father, Cody, a veteran in the sport, compete in bull-riding and bareback competitions. Cody competed from 1993 to 2016.
“Jake wanted to follow in his footsteps,” said his mom, Jody.
In addition to Cody and Jody Goodwin, of Shepherd, he is the son of Altos Overall of Porter, Texas.
Overall is seeking sponsors for the Vegas competition. If any local business is interested in a sponsorship, send an email to jodygoodwin40@yahoo.com.
