Liberty library has slate of children’s activities planned for New Year

Children ages 2 to 4 are invited to attend Story Time each week at the Liberty Municipal Library. The program is designed for this age group, but siblings are welcome, too.

Story Time presents a unique opportunity to encourage early literacy skills and a life time love of reading. Not to mention, kids have a great time.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the library is celebrating another Hap-pea new year together with Keith Baker’s Hap-pea All Year. In this story, children will follow a pack of perky peas who push through the months of the year together, celebrating treasured holidays and changing seasons. Children will also be reading the bilingual book, Un Elefante, by Patty Rodriguez, and practicing counting down in Spanish. Following the stories, children will have the opportunity to craft ‘May You Be Hap-pea All Year’ greeting cards.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the library will be gearing up for Valentine’s Day. Children will be reading “1, 2, 3 Valentine’s Day” by Jeanne Modesitt, which follows a plucky mouse making his rounds to all his best friends’ homes with special Valentine’s Day gifts. Children will also be reading heartwarming bilingual book, Te Amo, Te Abrazo, Leo Contigo= Love You, Hug You, Read to You by Tish Rabe. Following the stories, children will have an opportunity to craft Valentine’s cards.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Story Time will feature “Vincent Paints His House” by Tedd Arnold, the author who created the popular series Fly Guy. In this story, children read about Vincent, who just wants to paint his house. He thought white might be nice, but every time he reaches for the brush another neighbor comes out of the wood work with another color in mind. How on earth will he please them all? Children will also be reading bilingual book about colors, De Colores” by Elodie Pope.

The Liberty Municipal Library is located at 1801 Sam Houston St. For more information about Story Time or any of the resources/services available through the Library, please call u936-336-8901, follow the library on Facebook and/or Instagram, or just come on by.
