FEMA-4466-TX Mitigation Branch is hosting a series of Community Education workshops to provide recovery information primarily to homeowners. The workshops combine brief formal presentations, question-and-answer period and an open-forum period.
Panelists will include subject matter experts from Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA’s Divisions to include: Floodplain & Insurance, Individual Assistance/Housing, Disability Integration, Inter-Agency Recovery Coordination and Community Education & Outreach.
The workshop environment is designed to promote interaction among homeowners, local officials (including, but not limited to, town managers, emergency managers, building officials, public works directors and community planners) and panel participants.
The workshop in Liberty will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Liberty Center, 1829 Sam Houston Ave., Liberty. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest.
Workshop objectives include:
- Defining mitigation and its application in pre-and post-disaster environments.
- Providing information to homeowners, along with business owners and renters, on mitigation measures that can lessen the impact of future disasters such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.
- Providing information on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and any other applicable insurance coverage such as fire, high wind, etc.
- Promoting the adoption of sound mitigation practices by homeowners.
- Educating property owners about the value of mitigation, i.e. dollars spent vis-à-vis dollars saved.
- Defining the concept of building safer, stronger and smarter.
- Providing information on possible funding sources for implementing mitigation measures and on other resources.
