Liberty County reports first case of COVID-19

Liberty County is reporting the first case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new Coronavirus, and a north Liberty County resident. The person is female in their 40-50s and the source of the infection is being investigated. The person is currently experiencing mild symptoms and isolating at home.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is supporting Liberty County in identifying any close contacts of the patient while she was sick, so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms and quickly tested, if needed.

There are things everyone can do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then wash your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Minimizing exposure is especially important for people who are 65 and older, or who have an underlying health condition like heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or cancer. People in those groups have a higher risk of developing severe disease if they do get COVID-19, and the safest thing for them during an outbreak will be to stay home as much as possible and minimize close contact with other people. To get ready, they should talk to their doctor about getting additional prescription medications and have enough household items and groceries on hand to stay home as needed.

  1. Kinda hard to keep hand sanitizer around when you got people that is hoarding it all and trying to see it way over priced to make money. I’ll take my chances with COVID-19 before I give these people any money.

  2. People if you can’t possibly be using all the hand sanitizer that’s being sold. STOP HOARDING!!! Use common sense. Your neighbor could use some sanitizer too. There’s not a shortage just people that are hoarding. And STOP HOARDING TOILET PAPER!!!

  3. Make your own! 2/3 90% alcohol and 1/3 aloe vera gel. Add some essential oil to make it smell nice if you’d like.

  4. Everyone needs to stop hoarding sanitizer and cleaning products. Stores should limit purchases we need to remember that are persons that are at high risk and don’t have transportation and relying on others to take them to look for or go out themselves putting everyone at risk!

  5. I am a senior at 71 and have 3 of the high risk symptoms which is CHF/congestve heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure so my 52 year old son goes out and trys and gets me he can find and in all the years of my life I have never heard of the likes of selfish people. We all have to survive this virus so why aren’t we looking out for each other?

  6. I am confined to a electric wheelchair and it’s hard for me to get around and also young people should stop by and heck on people with disability and see if they need foot or toilet paper or sanitizer people please don’t forget the ones who raised you and the ones who went and put their lves in danger for you I am scared but it’s up to y’all to protect us now
