SJCSO: Coldspring man dies after setting fire to house, shooting himself

.

A man facing an outcry of sexual assault from his girlfriend’s child reportedly set fire to their home before shooting himself to death, authorities say.

“The victim of the alleged sexual assault was at the sheriff’s office giving a statement to investigators around 4:30 p.m. Sunday when the fire and suicide took place,” said Chief Deputy Tim Kean, a spokesperson for the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.

The family’s home is located at the 400 block of Dove Creek in Coldspring.

Kean said the name of the deceased man is not being released at this time as it would possibly identify the alleged 13-year-old victim. He added that the mother of the alleged victim was with her child at the sheriff’s office when she received a phone call letting her know her house was on fire.

As this is an active investigation, no other information is available at this time.
