The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the semi-annual Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, or ALERRT, starting next Monday, Feb. 26, at the Hardin ISD Administration building. The training will take two weeks to complete.
ALERRT is a federal and state-funded training program to teach active shooter response for law enforcement officers. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement has mandated that 16 hours of ALERRT Training be done every 2 years per officer.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is hosting this training, at no cost to officers, focusing currently on the officers at the Sheriff’s Office, with hopes to branch out to further areas in the future.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Hardin ISD and Superintendent Scott Mackey for opening their facilities to them, and the Federal Air Marshals for coming out to help with training by providing three instructors.
There will be an unusual amount of law enforcement at the Hardin ISD Administration Building on Hwy 146 due to this training, so if you pass by, keep in mind that there will be no emergency; instead, the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are increasing their knowledge to keep residents safer in the future.
