A man suspected in a copper theft case in Chambers County died Wednesday morning not long after he was taken into custody in Liberty County by a Harris County Pct. 3 deputy constable, authorities say.
The unnamed suspect – said to be a man in his 30s from the East Houston area – had fled Chambers County after the alleged theft and was located by a Harris County Pct. 3 deputy constable at a property on CR 602 located on the west side of Liberty County in the Dayton area. The nearest cross street to the location is CR 6026.
The suspect was taken into custody by the deputy constable and placed in the back seat of a patrol vehicle to await transfer to a Chambers County sheriff’s vehicle. During that time, he allegedly strangled himself using the seatbelt of the vehicle.
Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene and performed lifesaving measures while an air ambulance was arranged to transport the man to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he later was pronounced dead.
Texas Ranger Josh Benson is investigating the case as it involved an in-custody death.
The suspect’s next of kin have been notified, but authorities have not released the man’s name at this time. No other details are available.

Strangled himself with the seatbelt while his hands were handcuffed behind his back. Man Houdini could have learned some tricks from that guy.

he was a good man, with a good heart, on his way to his grandmothers house, whose name ended with N. He was loved and is already missed.
His family are really good people .He wouldn’t of harmed his self over going to jail .His family has enough money they would of got him out .He was so young! Even though he done wrong he didn’t deserve to die for it! God Bless his family and my heart goes out to his momma
