Police pursuit ends in crash in Cleveland

A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded on Monday, April 1, at approximately 11:45 am, as a Montgomery County Pct. 4 deputy stopped a red 4-door car for a traffic violation on Highway 59 near Northpark Drive in the Kingwood area. The situation quickly escalated when the driver provided a fake name and then fled from the scene in the vehicle.

The pursuit, reportedly reaching speeds of up to 130 MPH, continued northbound on US 59 with the involvement of Splendora Police Department and Woodbranch Police Department. As the chase crossed into Liberty County, Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland ISD police also joined in the effort to apprehend the suspect.

The intense pursuit came to a dramatic conclusion as the driver attempted to exit FM 2025 at a high speed, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and flip end over end down into an embankment. Undeterred, the driver allegedly kicked the windshield out and fled on foot, resulting in a brief foot chase across the main lanes of US 59 before being taken into custody.

Harold Clark is taken into custody after reportedly leading authorities on a pursuit that began in the Kingwood area and ended in Cleveland.

The driver was later identified as Harold Clark, a 31-year-old man from Harris County, Texas. Clark is facing multiple charges, including felony Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle, misdemeanor Failure to ID/Fugitive from Justice, and felony Possession of a Dangerous Drug. Furthermore, there are outstanding warrants for Clark’s arrest, including felony Aggravated Assault Family Member with a Deadly Weapon, felony Burglary of a Habitation, misdemeanor Harassment in Harris County, and charges in the State of Louisiana for Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities, and Home Invasion.

Constable Hayden commended the efforts of his deputies and the assisting agencies, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in removing this dangerous individual from the streets of Harris County.
