Jury sentences Cleveland man to 25 years for Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon

Jordan, Jose Felisiano

A Liberty County jury handed down a 25-year prison sentence to 45-year-old Jose Felisiano Jordan after finding him guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The verdict was reached at the conclusion of a two-day trial, during which the case proceeded before a jury following Jordan’s plea of not guilty on May 20, 2024.

The incident in question dates back to Aug. 4, 2021, when the Cleveland Police Department responded to a 911 call. Upon arrival, Officer Rosas found Jordan shirtless in the street, wielding a mini-bat and threatening two homeowners. Subsequent investigation revealed that Jordan had swung the mini-bat at one of the homeowners, who was in his 70s.

During the trial, Officer Rosas and Captain Felts provided testimony regarding their investigation, with Officer Rosas facing interruption at one point from the defendant, who began talking and shouting during the officer’s testimony.

Video evidence was also presented, depicting Jordan’s agitated state at the scene of the incident. Testimony from the homeowners further described ongoing conflicts with Jordan, including an attempt to physically harm one of them with the mini-bat. Jordan also took the stand in his own defense.

At the punishment phase of the trial, the State presented evidence of Jordan’s prior convictions, including drug-related offenses, assault, assault family violence, and multiple violations of protective orders. The sentencing, deliberated by the jury, ultimately resulted in a 25-year term to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The State’s case was led by Assistant District Attorneys Kevin G. Barnes and Kayla Hebert, while the defense was represented by Keaton Kirkwood.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service,” said Assistant District Attorney Kevin Barnes after the trial. “Jose Jordan poses a danger to the community.  The jury ensured that the victims in this case will not be bothered again by Jose Jordan for a long time.”

District Attorney Jennifer L. Bergman added, “It takes a particularly dangerous kind of coward to threaten elderly individuals with bodily harm and place them in fear for their safety and their lives. It is even more egregious when those individuals are members of the Defendant’s family. I am thankful that this defendant will serve a lengthy prison sentence as a result of his actions.”
