The Trinity River bridge along FM 787 in Romayor has been closed since May 7, 2024, after flooding washed out the approaches on the west side. Originally constructed in 1976 and extended in 2003, the bridge previously experienced a prolonged closure that stretched from May 2019 to summer 2022 due to a washout on its east side.
As a result of the most-recent washout, residents in the area are once again forced to take lengthy detours, with some opting for the SH 105 bridge in Moss Hill or the US 190 bridge in Livingston to cross the Trinity River.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) website indicates that the bridge is expected to remain closed until January 2025, though TxDOT officials currently lack a specific timeline for repairs.
“After further evaluation, it has been determined that both eastbound and westbound approaches have sustained damage due to the extreme rainfall in April and May. We are working on a timeline for repairs but do not have an estimated completion date at this time,” said TxDOT spokesperson Tanya Avila.
TxDOT staff are also busy assessing other bridges to ensure they meet safety standards. In May, flooding also briefly prompted the closing of the US 90 bridge in Liberty. Fortunately, that closing was only a couple of days until the water receded enough for an inspection of the bridge. For those fretful days, however, the only bridge across the Trinity River in Liberty County was the SH 105 bridge.
On Wednesday, June 5, the SH 105 bridge in the Moss Hill area was closed for several hours while crews removed debris that was collecting by the bridge supports. It reopened by Wednesday afternoon.
As for the FM 787 bridge, TxDOT said that due to the migration of the Trinity River, the only long-term solution involves relocating the bridge. Currently, the bridge is located in a bend of the river.
As more details become available, TxDOT will keep local authorities, emergency services, the media, and the public updated.

TxDot moves extremely slow, in part because they are a state agency full of state employees. When they do act, sometimes they do things like a shared turn lane where traffic meets head on turning into Forest Hills subdivision and Stripes.
You sound like a retard a state agency full of state employees you think dip shit
the 787 bridge needs to be relocated away from the bend of the river. at least a 1000 feet or more in either direction and the need to do it now, not a decade from now. it can be done.
