
Stephen Monroe Humphrey, 85, of Anahuac, Texas, was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on January 19, 1939, to the late Bernice (Brannon) Humphrey and Charles Eugene Humphrey. He died on June 9, 2024, at home.
In 1956 he graduated from LaGrange Senior High School in Lake Charles. Steve served in the United States Army for three years. During his lifetime, he had many varied job experiences from being a shrimp boat deckhand in 1957 to working for Anahuac ISD in 1992. He spent several years in construction, moving up the ranks until he was a superintendent and project manager. He then worked as a real estate agent and broker. He retired from AISD as a bus driver and computer network administrator in 2002.
He married Deanna Walker, his wife of almost 50 years in 1974, who survives him. They were inseparable and partners in everything they did. He and Deanna shared their house with numerous dogs and cats over the years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine May, and his in-laws, Otto and Ernesteen Walker.
He is survived by four sons, Steve Jr., Charles, Adam, and Jason Humphrey. He had nine granddaughters, six great-granddaughters, and seven great-grandsons.
He is also survived by brother-in-law Dick Walker (Dympthea) and Dick’s family including, Tanya DeHoyos (Victor) and their two daughters (Esperanza, Anjelita); Denise Russell and her four children (Pierre, Ajanté (Devrin), Colt, Zsnwhé (Dan); and David Walker and his two children (Carter, Lily).
During his lifetime, Steve’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, weekend shrimping, reading, exploring garage/estate sales, painting art for his family, and woodworking that included refurbishing old tools and furniture.
A special thanks to his granddaughter, Brittani Cohen (Jeff); great-niece, Zsnwhé Matteucci (Dan); and niece, Denise Russell for always being there for him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a worthy cause or charity of your choice.
A graveside service and committal will be held at 10am, on Friday, June 14, 2024, in the gazebo at Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac, Texas.
