Laura Jean Merrill Aucoin

Laura Jean Merrill Aucoin, beloved teacher’s aide who dedicated her life to nurturing the young minds of Dayton Independent School District, has peacefully passed away on June 13, 2024, in Kenefick, Texas. She was born on June 4, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas. 

Laura was a kind-hearted individual who truly adored all children she encountered. Her career as a teacher’s aide was more than just a job; it was a calling that she embraced with unwavering passion until her well-deserved retirement. 

One of Laura’s proudest accomplishments was her membership at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church, where she found solace and community. She will be remembered not only for her dedication to education but also for her strong faith and commitment to serving others. 

In her final moments, Laura Jean Merrill Aucoin was surrounded by her loving family, finding comfort in their presence. She is survived by her husband, Jackie Aucoin; sons Brian Aucoin and Kevin Aucoin (and his wife Mary); grandchildren Jack Aucoin, Payton Aucoin, and Madison Aucoin; sister Margaret Houston and her husband Dan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. 

Laura is preceded in death by her father Harold Eugene Merrill, her mother Stella Margaret Clark Merrill, and sisters Carolyn Sheffield and Faye Adam. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and dedication that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. 

May she rest in peace knowing that she touched the hearts of many and made the world a brighter place through her love and devotion.
