Dan “Goo” Ray Kelley, 55, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at his residence in Dayton, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 21, 1968, in Dayton, Texas, to the late Dan Ward and Dorothy Nell Sasser Kelley.
Goo graduated from Dayton High School in 1987 and worked as a painter and sandblaster in chemical plants for several years. Most of his work was done at Bill Bridges Subcontracting and the Chevron plants. He formerly attended Redemption Church in Crosby and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Goo was known for his love of helping others, his storytelling abilities, and his strong opinions, especially on politics. He loved talking about his faith and was dedicated to his Lord, often quoting the Bible with his sister, Diane.
His parents and brothers, Johnny and Henry Dudley, preceded him in death. Dan leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Carrie Dale Davis Kelley of Dayton. He was the “Daddy” of Misty, James “Dusty” and Lila Allen.
He was the beloved PawPaw of Aliana, Jerrick, Jarred “JJ,” Taelyn, Kylee, Trenton, Mark, Thomas, Dalila, Aubrey, and Carson. Dan is also survived by his siblings, Lizzie Remmers, Ruby “Nell” Kelley and husband Michael, Diana McLaughlin, Terry Dudley and wife Sheryl, and Dorothy Burdette and husband Phillip; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10 AM on Friday, July 19, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the chapel. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Linney Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.
