The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 10, at approximately 11:30 p.m., responded to a reported shooting at 5038 Barrows Lane, Kountze, in Hardin County. Upon arrival, deputies found 34-year-old Michael Gregory Dawson near the location, suffering from a superficial gunshot wound to the upper chest. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
According to Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis, the suspect, identified as Cody Michael Puckitt, also 34, was arrested at the scene. Puckitt faces charges of Aggravated Assault, and he was also apprehended on an outstanding warrant from Tyler County for the Revocation of Probation. He is currently held in the Hardin County Jail, awaiting arraignment and the setting of bond.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a female acquaintance of both men. The specifics of the altercation remain under investigation as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
