With great sadness, we announce the passing of Robert R. “Bob” Dodson of Liberty, Texas. Bob was born on Sept. 6, 1946, in DeRidder, La., and died on Oct. 1, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was the beloved husband of Kathy Reeh Dodson of Liberty, Texas, father of daughter Kelly Dodson of Midland, Texas, and son Scott Dodson and his wife Amy of Fort Worth, Texas, and grandfather of Ella Dodson of Fort Worth, Texas.
It was after retirement that Bob was able to live out his life-long dream of owning horses. Along with his favorite horse, Buddy, Bob enjoyed going on trail rides and experiencing the cowboy life he had grown up watching in movies and TV shows. He and Kathy owned a small ranch down by the Texas coast and Bob loved taking care of the animals, which, in addition to the horses, included goats, pigs and a few barn cats. He liked going to the horse auctions and buying and selling horses and trailers.
Once Kathy retired, she and Bob hooked up the RV and travelled the Southwest, visiting the places made famous in films by John Wayne. They saw Dodge City and Mount Rushmore, Pike’s Peak and the Grand Canyon, to name a few, and had a great time visiting the museums and parks.
Bob never met a stranger. He always struck up a conversation with the people he met, many of them turning into friends along the way.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, infant brother, brother Billy Dodson, half-brother Buddy Dodson, sister June Coolgrove, half-brother Erwin Dodson, sister Margie Lyons and half-sister Cordelia Spampinato.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Reeh Dodson of Liberty; daughter Kelly Dodson of Midland; son Scott Dodson, his wife Amy and granddaughter Ella of Ft Worth; sister Marion Walsh and her husband Pat of Friendswood; brother Charles Dodson and his wife Laurie of Conroe; Half-sister Deb Cox and her husband Jack of Edmond, OK, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be on Monday, Oct 7 at 2pm at Palms Memorial Cemetery, 2421 N Hwy 146, Dayton, TX.
