The Spirit of Sharing (SOS) in Liberty is asking the community to support its annual effort to provide Christmas presents for children in need. This initiative, part of SOS’s “Operation Noel,” aims to ensure that every child in the Liberty area experiences the joy of the holiday season.
SOS, a church-sponsored non-profit organization, is a crisis intervention agency that assists people regardless of their ethnic background, creed, or religion. Led by a board of members from local churches, SOS addresses the physical, spiritual, material, social, and educational needs of Liberty-area residents. Their services include food, clothing, and monetary assistance for essential needs such as medicine, propane, and utilities.
In the first 10 months of 2024 alone, SOS served 16,468 individuals, representing 6,312 households. This assistance included providing food, clothing, help with utilities, medication, gasoline, and propane. The organization operates out of a large building at 2521 Beaumont Ave., Liberty, where gently used clothing, furniture, and household goods donated by the community are sold at discounted rates to fund their programs.
Last year, SOS distributed Christmas presents to more than 800 children, and the organization anticipates the need will be just as great this year. To meet this demand, SOS is calling on the community to donate new or gently used toys to brighten the holidays for local children.
