James Michael Swearingen was born on Aug. 13, 1960, to Jr. and Neeta Swearingen in Liberty, Texas. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2025.
Mike grew up in Liberty, where he graduated from Liberty High School. . He went on to become what many would call an “amazing welder,” taking great pride in his work. Throughout his life, Mike was known as a brother, son, friend, and father, and he touched many hearts along the way.
If you knew Mike you likely heard one of his legendary cowboy stories which often included a handful of friends that would turn into family along the way . With an old cowboy spirit and a hippy soul, Mike lived a life full of adventure and unique experiences. But of all the roles he played in his life, his most cherished were those of “Deddy” and “Pawpaw Mike.”
In the later years of his life, Mike found great joy in spending time with his daughter, Telecia, and his grandchildren, Wyatt, Presley, and JD, Becca and her family, Giving his brother Mark a hard time or at “The meeting place” with his lifelong friends. These moments brought him the greatest happiness and fulfillment.
Mike was welcomed home on January 23,2025 by his parents, Jr. and Neata Swearingen; his brothers, Larry and Byron; his sister, Brenda; and his love, Charlotte.
He is survived by his daughter, Telecia, his grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Mike’s life may have been full of stories, but the most important ones are the ones he shared with those he cared for. He will be deeply missed but forever with us.
We will gather with all that loved him to share memories, Some old and some new on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at The Barn at McManus Farm
