Dayton FFA Livestock Show and Auction raises nearly $390K for local youths

The Dayton FFA hosted its annual livestock show last week, culminating in a highly successful auction on Saturday, May 10, at the Anson Rigby Memorial Arena in Dayton. The event brought in an impressive $389,691 to benefit Dayton FFA and 4-H students.

The top-selling project of the evening was McKenna Rankin’s Grand Champion Market Steer, which was purchased by Lopez Roofing for $18,000.

Other standout sales included Izbetth Garcia’s Reserve Champion Market Steer, which earned $14,000 and was purchased by Thrif-tee Food Center, and Ahmi Zapata’s Grand Champion Commercial Heifer, which also sold for $14,000 to Culbertson Contractors. Madeline Friedrich sold her Reserve Champion Commercial Heifer for $6,500, also to Thrif-tee Food Center.

In the swine division, Blair Reynolds earned $7,500 for the Grand Champion Market Hog, purchased by Thrif-tee Food Center, while Weston Croker’s Reserve Champion Market Hog brought in $7,499 from Premier Roofing.

For market goats, Bryce DeHart earned $4,200 for the Grand Champion, purchased by WOWCO, and Madyson Edwards received $3,100 for the Reserve Champion, purchased by Chachere Feed Store.

In the poultry category, Reece Boswell earned $2,700 for the Grand Champion Market Broilers, purchased by Dayton Electric, and Kinley Rankin’s Reserve Champion Market Broilers sold for $2,699 to Chachere Vet and Chachere Farm Bureau.

Alejandro Castilleja’s Grand Champion Market Rabbits brought in $2,700, also purchased by Chachere Vet and Chachere Farm Bureau, while Larry Beran Jr. received $2,000 for his Reserve Champion Market Rabbits, purchased by Barn Divas.

In the Ag Mechanics division, Wesley Salas earned $7,000 for the Grand Champion project, purchased by Premier Roofing, and Payton Orn’s Reserve Champion project sold for $5,000 to TSS.
