Joann Thomas Johnson

Joann Thomas Johnson, 75, of Beaumont, Texas, made her transition into eternity on May 28, 2025, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Proctor’s Mortuary, 3522 Washington Blvd., Beaumont, Texas.

Joann Thomas was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Lafayette, Louisiana, the firstborn of the late Joseph “DaDay” and Mary Mouton Thomas.

After moving to Beaumont, Texas, Joann’s early education began at Pipkin and Hollywood Elementary Schools. She received her formal education at Hebert High School, where she was a proud member of the Class of 1968. Joann met and married Darrell L. Johnson, and to their union, one child was born, Shonda Johnson.

Joann was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church and later Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont. She was employed by J.B. Hunt and then went on to work for the City of Beaumont Water Department, where she remained until her retirement.

Jo, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was a great cook. She will be remembered for always having food to share with family, friends and neighbors. Jo loved to sing, and she had the most amazing gift of storytelling, a trait she inherited from her father. Her “tell it like it is” sense of humor and infectious laughter will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gay “Margie Nell” Thomas Vincent; her brothers, Charles Thomas and Alton Williams; and her stepmother, Grace Lewis Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories her daughter, Shonda Johnson; granddaughters, Raven Sellers and Ryan Sellers; great-grandson, Rylon Relford; brothers, Michael Thomas, Kevin Thomas (Janice), Greg Williams, Howard Thomas, Darrell Thomas and Joseph Thomas, all of Beaumont, Texas; sisters, Alma “Sheila” Mouton of Lafayette, Louisiana, Carolyn Thibodeaux (James) of Winnie, Texas, and Barbara Williams of Beaumont, Texas; aunt, Patrina Phillips of Beaumont, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Proctor’s Mortuary – Beaumont is in charge of final arrangements: 3522 Washington Blvd., Beaumont, Texas 77705, (409) 840-2022. The guest book can be signed, and words of comfort and condolences for the family can be left at www.proctorsmortuary.com.
