Karen Elaine Holley Luce

Karen Elaine Holley Luce, 75, of Liberty, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025. Born on April 10, 1950, in Pleasanton, Texas. Daughter of Elijah Patterson (Pat) Holley Jr. and Violet Lorine Shearrer Holley, Elaine was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, faithful Christian, and cherished friend.

A lifelong resident of the Dayton/Liberty area, Elaine shared many years of her life with her beloved husband, David Burl Luce. The two shared a beautiful journey of 53 years together. Though they briefly lived in Poteet, Texas, they ultimately returned home to the community they loved. It was in this area where Elaine built a life centered around family, faith, and service.

Elaine’s love for God was the cornerstone of her life. A gifted singer in her younger years, she often shared her voice in church and was known for her heartfelt performances. A diligent student of the Bible, she read scripture daily and lived her faith through quiet strength and grace.

Elaine obtained her LVN license from Lee College and had a heart for helping others through nursing. She also expressed herself creatively, enjoying crochet, painting, and other crafts. Gospel music often played in the background as she spent time at home, her favorite place to be, especially when shared with David.

One of Elaine’s greatest joys were the family’s trips to the Frio River and Garner State Park—a tradition that began when she met David there many years ago. These vacations became treasured memories that carried deep meaning for the entire family.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Violet Holley and her devoted husband, David. Father, Roland Thompson and wife Loretta. She is survived by her loving daughter Tonya Schroeder and husband Quentin; her brother Lee Holley and wife Loretta; grandchildren Joey Elaine Greene and husband Shane, and Cody Lee David Templeton and wife Christina; and great-grandchildren Ivy Elaine Greene, Jaxson Ramirez, Luna Templeton, Raya Templeton, and David Templeton.

Elaine is also lovingly remembered by her special daughter Tammie Kelly and husband Jason, and their children Matthew and Sarah. Tammie’s dedicated care in Elaine’s later years was a true blessing to the entire family and a testament to their close bond.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 27, at 3:00 p.m. at Hardin Chapel Cemetery, with Pastor Connie Tousha officiating.

Elaine will be remembered for her deep faith, her kindness, and her unwavering love for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and strength will live on in all who knew her.
