A Cleveland man was arrested Thursday evening, June 19, after allegedly attacking his roommate with a knife during a violent altercation at a local trailer park, according to police.
Cleveland Police responded to a reported disturbance at the Advantage Trailer Park at 610 Easy Street around 6:50 p.m. Upon arrival, Officers Brown and A. Medina met with a man who claimed he had been assaulted by his roommate. The man was bleeding from a laceration to his left hand, which he said was caused by a knife.
While officers spoke with the victim, they reportedly heard loud screaming from a nearby residence and made contact with Ronald Jenkins, 30, of Cleveland. Jenkins was observed to have a swollen right eye.
According to the victim, Jenkins was the person who cut him. Officers said Jenkins became physically combative when they attempted to place him in hand restraints and resisted arrest. After several minutes, officers were able to restrain him.
Witnesses told police that the two men were initially involved in a verbal argument that escalated when Jenkins allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened his roommate. A physical struggle reportedly followed.
The victim told officers that Jenkins made several attempts to stab him. He said he was cut while trying to defend himself and elbowed Jenkins in the face as the suspect allegedly swung the knife toward his abdomen.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene to treat both men for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Jenkins was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Resisting Arrest. He was treated at HCA Cleveland Emergency Room before being booked into the Cleveland Police Department Jail and later transferred to the Liberty County Jail.
