Middle school students at both Santa Fe Middle School and Cleveland Middle School recently participated in a high-energy, confidence-building dance camp led by members of the Kingwood Fillies dance team.
The camp was hosted by Dancers Without Borders, a Texas-based nonprofit organization founded in 2023 by Ally Hunt and her close friend and teammate Savvy Haddox, both rising seniors at Kingwood High School.
The organization was born out of Hunt and Haddox’s desire to give back to the dance community that has shaped their lives—and to extend those benefits to communities with fewer resources.
For Hunt, the mission is deeply personal. She is the granddaughter of Melvin and Patricia Hunt and Robert and Oma Owens (Oma is a current teacher in Cleveland ISD and Melvin was a former teacher at Cleveland ISD, and both Ally’s parents – Trey and Brandy Hunt – graduated from Cleveland ISD).
She founded the nonprofit as a way to honor her family’s legacy and support the town where her roots run deep—especially its migrant youth population.
Dancers Without Borders is committed to fostering confidence, creativity, and connection through dance, using mentorship and movement to create opportunities for young people across underserved areas of Texas. The recent camp marks a meaningful step in the group’s mission to use the power of dance to build community and inspire the next generation.
