David Kieth LaBar

David Kieth LaBar, 64, passed away in his home Nov. 15, 2025, in Cleveland, Texas. Born Feb. 9, 1961, in Lufkin, Texas, David lived a life marked by dedication to education, service to others and deep love for his family.

David pursued higher education with passion and purpose. He earned a BA in computer science and education from Angelina Junior College and Stephen F. Austin University. He later completed an MEd in school administration from Lamar University. These academic achievements laid the foundation for a remarkable career that spanned more than three decades.

Over the course of 36 years, David devoted himself to teaching in various school districts across Texas. He extended his impact internationally by educating students in Kuwait and Ecuador. His work was not limited to the classroom; he also served in the military sector as a restaurant manager, where he played a key role in launching new dining facilities and ensuring they were well equipped with necessary supplies and materials.

David’s commitment to education went far beyond lesson plans. He was known as an excellent teacher and a student motivator — someone who brought energy, humor and heart into every interaction. Whether leading classroom discussions or participating in school activities and student clubs, David inspired those around him with his enthusiasm and unwavering support.

His sense of humor was legendary among students and colleagues alike. Always ready with a joke or lighthearted comment, David had a gift for making people laugh while also making them feel seen and valued. His ability to connect with others made him not only an effective educator but also a beloved mentor and friend.

Outside of his professional life, David found joy in many pursuits. He loved looking through historical memorabilia — a reflection of his appreciation for the past — and he had an adventurous spirit that led him to travel widely. Time spent with family was especially meaningful to him; he treasured moments playing with his grandsons, Mateo and Javier Sanchez-LaBar, and doted on his daughter, Katelyn LaBar. His devotion to his wife, Karen LaBar, was evident in all aspects of their life together.

David is survived by his loving wife, Karen LaBar; his daughter, Katelyn LaBar; his brother, Eddie LaBar, and wife, Jany; his sister, Crystal Gentry, and wife, Melissa; his aunt, Judy Goins; his uncle, Alvin LaBar, and wife, Virginia; his aunt, Sharon Graham; and his treasured grandsons, Mateo and Javier Sanchez-LaBar.
