The Texas Department of Transportation’s Beaumont District is asking for public input as it develops its 2027–2030 Rural Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Beaumont District plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains the state transportation system in the following counties: Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, and Tyler.
The Rural TIP identifies transportation projects eligible for federal funding over the next four years in areas outside metropolitan planning organization boundaries. These projects can include improvements for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and public transit.
TxDOT officials said the program is an important step in determining which projects move forward.
Transportation projects cannot receive federal funding unless they are included in the Rural TIP. The process also helps establish agreement among local, regional and state leaders on project priorities and identifies funding match requirements.
To gather feedback, TxDOT will host an online public meeting for the Beaumont District, with the virtual meeting listed under Tyler County. The meeting will be available beginning at 5 p.m. May 12 through 11:59 p.m. May 22.
Residents can review project information and provide input by visiting www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/get-involved/about/hearings-meetings.html and locating the Tyler County meeting.
The virtual meeting will include a short presentation and exhibits explaining how the Rural TIP works and outlining the projects proposed for inclusion.
TxDOT encourages community members to participate, noting that public input plays a key role in prioritizing transportation needs across the region.
Comments must be submitted or postmarked by May 22. Those who prefer to submit feedback by mail can send comments to the Texas Department of Transportation, Beaumont District, Attn: Rural TIP, 8350 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, Texas 77708. Comments may also be emailed to heather.seamon@txdot.gov with “Rural TIP” included in the subject line.
