Cleveland ISD Bookmobile hits the roads this summer

Cleveland ISD students will soon have a new way to stay connected to reading during the summer months with the launch of the district’s new Bookmobile.

The mobile library, created to bring books and learning opportunities directly into neighborhoods across the district, grew from an idea shared by Alison Alpha, Cody Cox, Dr. Rebecca Sandford and former Superintendent Stephen McCanless. Their goal was to create a way for students to continue reading and learning even while school is out for the summer.

The Cleveland ISD Bookmobile will travel throughout the district, giving students access to books they can check out using their Cleveland ISD ID cards. Along with books, students and families will also be able to participate in storytime sessions and hands-on STEM activities during visits.

District leaders hope the Bookmobile will help make reading more accessible and encourage students to continue building literacy skills during the summer break.

A major part of bringing the project to life came through the work of the Ellis Bus Repair Department at TDC Huntsville, whose team helped transform the bus into a colorful mobile reading space for students.

Cleveland ISD will host ribbon-cutting celebrations for the Bookmobile on Monday, June 8, 2026, at two locations:

Santa Fe Elementary School, 7499 County Rd. 3540, from 8 to 10 a.m.

Southside Elementary School, 303 E. Fort Worth St., from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Bookmobile will continue traveling throughout the district during the summer, stopping at campuses and neighborhoods so students can check out books, participate in activities and spend time enjoying the mobile reading space.

District staff members will be available during each stop to assist students and families. Families are encouraged to check the Bookmobile schedule and visit locations throughout the summer.
