The first day of early voting for the May 26 runoff election began Monday, May 18, and will continue through Friday, May 22, at five locations across Liberty County. Early voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Voters may cast ballots at the following early voting locations:
- Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Ave., Cleveland
- Santa Fe Administration Building, 1680 CR 3549, Cleveland
- Hardin City Hall, 142 CR 2010, Hardin
- Dayton Community Center, 801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton
- Jack Hartel Community Building, 318 San Jacinto St., Liberty
Curbside voting is available at every early voting location except the Santa Fe Administration Building. Voters needing curbside assistance may call 936-253-8050.
Republican voters will see several contested runoff races on the ballot, including both statewide and local races. The Republican runoff ballot includes the race for United States senator between Ken Paxton and John Cornyn; United States representative for District 9 between Alex Mealer and Briscoe Cain; attorney general between Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy; Railroad commissioner between Jim Wright and Bo French; and Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3 between Alison Fox and Thomas Smith.
Local Republican runoff races include the 75th State District Court judge race between James “JD” Chandler and Michelle Merendino; Liberty County Pct. 2 commissioner between Wade Brown and Greg Arthur; Liberty County Pct. 4 commissioner between John Headrick and Gerald Kolarik; Republican Party county chair between Craig McNair and Ryan Taylor; and Pct. 5 justice of the peace between Joe Williams and Joe McAnally.
The Democratic runoff ballot includes fewer races. Democrats will choose between Vikki Goodwin and Marcos Isaias Velez for lieutenant governor; Joe Jaworski and Nathan Johnson for attorney general; and Tiffany Perkins and Debra Drake Ambroise for Member, State Board of Education, District 7.
Some candidates who win the runoff election will still face opposition in the November general election.
