Law enforcement authorities are searching for a suspect following an armed robbery at an Exxon store located at the intersection of U.S. 90 and FM 770 in the Raywood area.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Billy Knox, deputies received a call about the robbery at approximately 12:05 p.m. Friday, May 29. Deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
Knox said the suspect is described as a Black male wearing black pants, a blue hoodie, a greenish-black face mask and slide-style shoes.
During the robbery, the suspect allegedly assaulted both a store clerk and a female customer. The female customer was reportedly pushed to the ground. Knox said she had already left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The store clerk was pistol-whipped from behind during the incident, according to Knox, adding that the store clerk was shaken up but is expected to be okay.
Authorities were still determining how much money or property was taken during the robbery. Surveillance cameras inside the store captured the incident and are expected to aid investigators.
The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot down County Road 119C.
