McCoy, Dontae Lashane

A fuel spill at a Cleveland convenience store on Tuesday, June 2, led to the arrest of a truck driver who was found to have an outstanding warrant from Harris County.

According to the Cleveland Police Department, officers and members of the Cleveland Fire Department responded June 2 to a reported fuel spill at the Fuel Depot convenience store in the 600 block of Nevell Street (FM 787).

Police said a fuel tanker truck was refilling the store’s underground fuel storage tanks when, for reasons still under investigation, fuel overflowed from the tanks and spilled onto the store’s parking lot.

Witnesses reportedly alerted the store manager to the spill, who immediately contacted emergency dispatchers. According to police, witnesses stated that the driver had stepped away from the fueling operation or was otherwise inattentive when the overflow occurred.

A hazardous materials cleanup crew was called to the scene to contain and clean up the spill.

The truck was being operated by Dontae Lashane McCoy, 28, of Pearland. During the investigation, officers discovered McCoy had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant issued by Harris County Court No. 10.

According to police, the warrant was for a charge of Harris County Water Pollution Strict Liability Violation involving an individual and stemmed from a similar incident in Harris County.

McCoy was arrested and transported to the Liberty County Jail. Police said his bond was set at $100.
