Liberty man charged with armed robbery of Raywood gas station

Baldwin, Xavier Ricky

A Liberty man has been arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery that occurred May 29 at the Exxon convenience store located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and FM 770 in Raywood.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, a store employee was assaulted and a customer was pushed to the ground during the robbery before the suspect fled the scene on foot. The employee suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The case was assigned to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. With little information initially available, investigators canvassed the area, reviewed surveillance footage, interviewed potential witnesses, and searched for evidence that could help identify the suspect.

Through their investigation, detectives developed leads and gathered evidence that ultimately led to the identification of Xavier Ricky Baldwin, 33, of Liberty.

On June 5, just one week after the robbery, Baldwin was taken into custody without incident.

The Sheriff’s Office said the arrest was the result of extensive investigative work that included surveillance review, evidence collection, witness interviews, and continued follow-up by investigators. Officials also recognized the assistance of Harris County Constable Precinct 3 deputies, who helped take Baldwin into custody.

Authorities said the case required significant investigative effort due to the limited information available at the outset. Through continued follow-up and evidence development, investigators were able to identify, locate, and arrest the suspect within a relatively short period of time.

Baldwin has been charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony under Texas law.
