Liberty County residents won’t have to travel far to celebrate a spectacular Independence Day this year. Communities across the county are preparing for a weekend filled with fireworks, food, games and family-friendly activities as Americans celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.
Whether you’re looking for a hometown fireworks show, a bicycle parade or simply a place to gather with family and friends, Liberty, Cleveland, Colony Ridge, Dayton and Daisetta all have events planned for the holiday weekend.
Liberty
Liberty will kick off the celebrations a day early with its Annual Liberty Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 3, at Liberty Municipal Park.
Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. as vendors set up throughout the park, offering food, merchandise and activities for attendees. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m.
The event has become a longtime tradition for many Liberty families, drawing residents to the park for an evening of fellowship and patriotic celebration. Bring your own chair or sit inside the comfort of your vehicle.
Cleveland
Cleveland’s annual Stars & Stripes Celebration returns Friday, July 3, at Cleveland High School, 1600 E. Houston St. Many people sit in the bleachers to enjoy the festivities while others remain in their cars in the parking lot. Either way you are guaranteed a good view of the fireworks show.
Gates will open at 7 p.m., and one of the evening’s highlights will be the popular Kiddie Parade at 7 p.m. Live music from Clutch City Band is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m., leading up to a fireworks show at approximately 9:20 p.m.
The celebration, presented by Frontier Waste Solutions, offers families an opportunity to gather and enjoy one of Cleveland’s favorite Fourth of July traditions.
Colony Ridge
Colony Ridge will host its Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 4, at the Santa Fe Administration and Activities Building, located at 1680 CR 3549 in Cleveland.
Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for an evening of family-friendly entertainment, live music and fireworks. Headlining the celebration will be the Will Carter Band, which will perform live as part of the festivities.
Organizers promise fun for the entire family, with additional activities and announcements still being planned. The evening will conclude with a fireworks show.
The event has become one of the larger Independence Day celebrations in the area, drawing residents from throughout Colony Ridge and surrounding communities for an evening of music, fellowship and patriotic celebration.
Daisetta
In Daisetta, families are invited to gather at Bobcat Stadium for the annual Fireworks on the Field celebration.
Activities begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 4 and will include music, cornhole, veterans appreciation activities, a “Red, White and You” selfie station, sausage on a stick and other family-friendly attractions before fireworks light up the sky after dark.
The event is hosted by the City of Daisetta and HD N.E.A.T. with support from local donors.
Dayton
Dayton residents will celebrate Independence Day with the Annual July 4th Hometown Celebration at the Dayton Community Center, 801 S. Cleveland St.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and promises something for all ages. Organizers have planned activities for children and adults, a bicycle parade, food trucks, family entertainment and a fireworks show.
This year’s celebration carries extra significance as communities across the nation commemorate 250 years of American independence. Organizers are encouraging neighbors and friends to come together and celebrate both the nation’s history and Dayton’s strong sense of community.
A birthday 250 years in the making
While each community celebrates in its own way, this year’s Independence Day carries special meaning as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.
These celebrations may take place in small towns, but longtime residents know they are anything but small in spirit. Year after year, communities across Liberty County turn out in force to celebrate with family, friends and neighbors, creating fireworks displays and hometown traditions that rival those found in much larger cities.
Bluebonnet News will be livestreaming from a couple of these events this year. For more information on these events, see the flyers below.
