Deputy constable suffers minor injury from accidental discharge of weapon

A Liberty County deputy constable suffered a non-life-threatening injury Wednesday, June 24, while participating in firearms training at the Liberty County Gun Range on FM 1010 in Cleveland.

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Knox, the male deputy constable experienced an accidental discharge of his firearm and shot himself in the big toe.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Liberty County Gun Range is used by various law enforcement agencies from throughout Liberty County and surrounding areas for firearms training and qualification. No other injuries were reported.
