A Liberty County deputy constable suffered a non-life-threatening injury Wednesday, June 24, while participating in firearms training at the Liberty County Gun Range on FM 1010 in Cleveland.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Knox, the male deputy constable experienced an accidental discharge of his firearm and shot himself in the big toe.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Liberty County Gun Range is used by various law enforcement agencies from throughout Liberty County and surrounding areas for firearms training and qualification. No other injuries were reported.
Did they call a ambulance or a tow truck?
Accidental discharge of a weapon is not plausible. The following are required to discharge a weapon: Loaded, off of safety, finger on the trigger. With those three criteria you then must be pointing the weapon at your intended target with the expectation of a lethal outcome. If you do not practice those four steps you should not be handling firearms.
Like the Commissioner who was adjusting his holster and the pistol accidently discharged hitting a young boy. How does that happen when you’ve had years of law enforcement training.
