Claude Wesley Deats was a faithful servant of the Lord, and that faith shone throughout his life. He found deep pride in his children and was a loving presence in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished time spent surrounded by family and found great joy in the people he loved most.
In his early years, Claude served with the Houston Fire Department, dedicating himself to the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens. He later worked for Armco Steel in Houston, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Claude concluded his professional journey as a stationary engineer with Transwestern, leaving a lasting impression through his reliability, skill, and dedication.
Outside of work, Claude found joy in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, grilling, watching sports, and cheering on his beloved Houston Astros. In his younger days, he was known for his athleticism as an outstanding shortstop, a talent admired by all who played beside him. He also delighted in family vacations, and those shared adventures became some of his happiest memories.
Family held a special place in Claude’s heart. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Nelva Jo Deats; his son, Jeremy Deats, and wife Brandie; his daughter, Salena Crawford, and husband Roger. Claude’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Heather Deats, Damien Deats, Cierra Anglin and husband Austin, Caleb Fenwick, Taylor Fenwick and fiancé Kayden; and his great-grandchildren: Dylan Anglin, Kaiden Anglin, Archer Anglin, Carson Anglin, Weston Fenwick, and Wrenly Fenwick. He is also survived by his brother, Danny Deats; sister, Judy Bennett, and husband Gerald; and sister, Pam Connaly, and husband Johnny. Each of them will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Claude was preceded in death by his mother, Verdie Synetta Richard; father, Ed Richard; and brother, Roy Jordan. Their memories remain lovingly intertwined with Claude’s rich and meaningful life.
