A Polk County man already jailed on assault charges is now facing additional first-degree felony charges, including continuous sexual abuse of a child, as investigators continue probing the suspicious death of Kelly Taylor Mariah Little.
The investigation began May 23 following the suspicious death of Little, who left behind three children. During the course of the investigation, multiple witnesses came forward with evidence that led investigators to examine the activities of Cody Allen Laviolette.
As the investigation has continued, several women have also come forward to report their interactions with Laviolette.
On the evening of July 10, Cody Allen Laviolette, 36, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and unlawful restraint, a third-degree felony.
On July 16, additional charges were filed against Laviolette, including continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, also a first-degree felony.
According to the sheriff’s office, the judge is reviewing the applicability of Texas’ new law regarding violent offenders to determine whether Laviolette should be held without bond on the additional charges in an effort to prevent further acts of violence and protect the community.
The sheriff’s office continues to ask anyone who may have witnessed criminal activity involving Laviolette, or who believes they may have been a victim, to contact investigators. Information provided by witnesses and victims may assist investigators as they continue to pursue the case.
