Liberty HS freshman earns two of Texas’ highest music honors

Liberty High School freshman Solomon Raines has been recognized as a UIL Outstanding Performer at the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest, one of the highest individual honors awarded to student musicians in Texas.

The Outstanding Performer Award is presented to students who demonstrate exceptional musicianship at the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest. Only a select group of the state’s finest performers receive the distinction after earning a Division I (Superior) rating on a Class I solo at the state level. The award recognizes musical excellence that goes beyond an already superior performance.

Earlier this year, Raines was also selected to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Choir, another of the state’s most prestigious honors for high school vocalists. Earning both All-State Choir recognition and the UIL Outstanding Performer Award in the same school year is a rare accomplishment. Achieving both honors as a freshman at Liberty High School makes the achievement even more impressive.

Raines’ accomplishments have established him as one of the top high school vocalists in Texas. His success reflects a combination of natural talent, hard work and an unwavering commitment to musical excellence.

“Solomon has consistently demonstrated remarkable talent, dedication, and maturity as a musician,” said Christie Bean, Liberty High School Choir Director. “Receiving the UIL Outstanding Performer Award is an extraordinary accomplishment and a well-deserved recognition of his artistry. To also earn a place in the TMEA All-State Choir during his freshman year speaks volumes about his work ethic and musical ability. He has an incredibly bright future, and I couldn’t be more proud of everything he has accomplished.”

The Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest is the culmination of the UIL solo and ensemble process. Students must first earn a Division I (Superior) rating on a Class I solo at the regional contest to qualify for state. At the state contest, students perform before distinguished adjudicators from across Texas, where only a select number are chosen to receive the Outstanding Performer Award.

As a member of the Liberty High School Choir, Raines has consistently demonstrated leadership, perseverance and a passion for music. His accomplishments have brought statewide recognition to both himself and the Liberty High School vocal music program.

Raines is the son of Katriesa Secada and Oluwa Raines and the stepson of Oscar Secada.

The Liberty High School Choir extends its appreciation to the Liberty Independent School District administration, the LISD Board of Trustees and the Liberty High School Choir Boosters for their continued support and commitment to providing opportunities for students to pursue excellence in music education.

The Liberty High School Choir congratulates Raines on an outstanding freshman year filled with remarkable accomplishments. Earning a place in the TMEA All-State Choir and receiving the UIL Outstanding Performer Award as a ninth-grade student reflects his exceptional talent, dedication and commitment to musical excellence.
