Barbara Jean George, 93, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2026, after a life beautifully marked by faith, love, and joy.
Born on Dec. 14, 1932, in Pampa, Texas, Barbara was a proud Texan who cherished her roots in the Texas Panhandle. She often shared fond stories of her childhood and the treasured memories she made growing up.
After graduating from Lefors High School, she attended Frank Phillips College before beginning her career with Phillips Petroleum and later Goodyear. Throughout her life, Barbara was blessed with opportunities to live and travel around the world. She treasured the friendships she made and the many cultures she experienced, reflecting with gratitude on the incredible life God had given her.
Barbara was first and foremost a daughter of the King. Jesus was not simply a part of her life—He was the very center of it. She faithfully served as an adult Sunday School teacher at Coldspring FB Church, Shepherd FB Church, and South Park Baptist Church in Alvin, Texas. Barbara never missed an opportunity to share God’s love and His saving grace with those around her. Her testimony was that God had called her to “spread joy,” and she faithfully fulfilled that calling through her kindness, encouragement, generous spirit, and unwavering love for others.
Barbara was the heart of a large and loving family. She treasured every gathering, celebration, holiday, vacation, and time spent playing dominoes or cards with those she loved. Time with her family brought her immeasurable happiness. She also loved time spent with the cats she so affectionately gave a home to throughout the years.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Robert Sullivan.
She leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Mark Horn and wife, Belinda; Tere’ Comeaux; Sandy Grant and husband, Tom; Jason Horn and wife, Susie; and Stephanie Blankenship and husband, Jim.
She was lovingly known as “Grandma B” and “Mamaw” by her twelve grandchildren: Melony, Marquis (Jake), Chelsea (Blake), Brittney (Michael), Darion (Sarah), Amy (Dave), Tre’, Megan (Chris), Dillan (Fran), Dakotah (Dirk), Drayden, and Austin.
Barbara was also blessed with eighteen great-grandchildren: Jordon, Hilary, Tabitha, Walker, Slade, Aubrey, Mack, Briggs, Bliss, Zippy, Clara, Noah H, Lexi, Zakary, Braylen, Sage, Noah T, and Jonah; and one great-great-granddaughter, Presley, who was born on Barbara’s 90th birthday. She also leaves behind numerous extended family and friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her.
Barbara’s greatest legacy is the love she shared and the faith she lived. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, warm hugs, the sparkle in her eyes and most importantly the pure joy she brought to everyone around her.
Although her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that Barbara is now Home—whole, healed, and in the presence of her Lord, “where the streets are paved with gold.”
