Mildred Alice “Happy” Adkisson, age 97, entered Heaven’s gates on July 20, 2026, in Kingwood, Texas. She was born on March 8, 1929, in Loon Lake, Oregon. Throughout her 97 years, Mildred lived a life overflowing with faith, compassion, and love for others, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Mildred was a faithful servant of the Lord whose life reflected kindness, generosity, and an unwavering desire to care for those around her. She found joy in serving others and lived each day with a heart full of grace and compassion.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Eli Alfred Adkisson; her children, Mark Holliday and Cheryl Winters; six cherished grandchildren; sixteen treasured great-grandchildren; along with many other loving relatives and a host of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Evert Hunt and Mildred Ardella Billings Hunt; her beloved son, Rex “Pistol” Holliday; and her brothers, Mike Hunt and John Hunt.
Mildred retired from Ma Bell after many years of dedicated service as a dispatcher. Retirement, however, was only the beginning of another chapter of caring for others. She opened her heart and home by operating an adult foster home, where she lovingly cared for five ladies. Her compassion and commitment were evident in every life she touched, including one resident whom she faithfully cared for from the age of 99 until she reached 104 years old. To Mildred, caregiving was never just a responsibility—it was her calling.
Known affectionately as “Happy,” she had a joyful spirit that brought comfort and encouragement to everyone around her. She loved her family beyond measure and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. She also had a special place in her heart for children, whose laughter and innocence brought her endless joy.
Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or simply offering a listening ear, Mildred made people feel valued and loved. Her gentle nature, steadfast faith, and selfless heart were gifts to all who knew her.
Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of faith, love, and service lives on in the lives she touched. Her family finds comfort in knowing she has entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior and has been reunited with those who have gone before her.
Mildred will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Her life was a beautiful testament to God’s love, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
A visitation For Mildred will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Neal Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas. A service to celebrate her life will be held on the same day at 7 p.m. Mildred will be laid to rest on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, Texas 77038.
