Homeowners in Liberty, Hardin, San Jacinto, Montgomery and Polk counties, along with residents of 22 other eligible Texas counties still recovering from severe weather in 2024, will have an opportunity this weekend to learn about financial assistance that could help repair, rebuild or reimburse them for storm-related damage.
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) will host a Homeowner Assistance Outreach Event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the San Jacinto County Innovation Center, 250 Live Oak St. in Coldspring. Representatives will be available to answer questions, explain available assistance programs and help eligible homeowners begin the application process.
The outreach event is designed to assist homeowners affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and Hurricane Beryl that impacted Texas in 2024.
“The Texas General Land Office’s housing programs have helped more than 14,000 Texas families rebuild their homes – and their lives,” Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham said. “In 2024, many Texas communities experienced significant damage from severe storms, including devastating straight-line winds, tornadoes, and Hurricane Beryl. While many communities are familiar with the GLO’s housing efforts, many are new to the programs. We hope homeowners still struggling to recover in the 27 eligible counties will visit recovery.texas.gov/apply to learn more and apply.”
The programs are available only for a homeowner’s primary residence. Applicants may choose only one form of assistance—either reimbursement for eligible storm-related expenses or repair and reconstruction assistance. Applications must include all required documentation and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applicants must provide proof of identity, legal status, current ownership, primary residence at the time of the disaster, child support payment history, mortgage payment history, flood insurance (in some cases), and property tax payment records, and must have at least $3,000 in verified damages.
Eligible counties include Liberty, Hardin, San Jacinto, Montgomery, Polk and the counties of Anderson, Bell, Brazoria, Caldwell, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Fort Bend, Galveston, Guadalupe, Hays, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Kaufman, Matagorda, Newton, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Walker and Wharton.
Homeowners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible by visiting recovery.texas.gov/apply. Applicants should review the required document checklists before submitting an application.
