Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting Thursday evening, Aug. 20, on CR 3540 in the Grand San Jacinto subdivision in the Colony Ridge community south of Plum Grove.
According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the location around 8:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful, and the person died at the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
During the initial investigation, sheriff’s office personnel developed information identifying two persons of interest believed to be connected to the shooting. Authorities said both had fled the scene in a Dodge pickup truck.
Approximately 30 minutes after the shooting, authorities located the pickup and one of the two persons of interest. That male subject reportedly suffered a gunshot wound and is receiving medical treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.
The second person of interest remains at large. Sheriff’s office personnel are actively working to locate that individual and are following leads as they develop.
The shooting reportedly followed an altercation involving a group of men at Los Toxicos bar on CR 3540. Authorities have not released information about what prompted the altercation or the circumstances leading to the gunfire.
The Texas Rangers are assisting the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
