Hope ‘Elaine’ West Humber

Hope ‘Elaine’ West Humber, 94, of Liberty, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, in Kingwood.

Elaine was born May 11, 1932, in Hornbeck, Louisiana, to Estie and Hope Christie Chance West. A former resident of Louisiana, she had lived in Liberty since 1955. She was a graduate of Hornbeck High School, where she played basketball and was part of a state championship team.

Elaine was a devoted homemaker who also helped her husband with rice farming. She enjoyed deer hunting, cruising, gardening, and traveling. She was especially known for her Cooking. A longtime sports fan, Elaine enjoyed watching the Houston Oilers, as a former season ticket holder and even spent time hunting and cooking for members of the Oilers team. She also enjoyed following the Houston Texans, Rockets, and the Astros.

Mrs. Humber was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D. Humber; her son, Ricky Lynn Humber; and her brother, Arvel Bruce “A.B.” West.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Humber; her sons, Randy Humber and wife Karen, and Paul Humber and wife Candy; grandchildren, Will Humber, J.D. Humber II and wife Allison, Haley Stephens and husband Mitch, and Madison DeLeon and husband Cole; great-grandchildren, Keaton Humber, Abigail Humber, Everett Humber, Paisley Stephens, Banks Stephens, and Miller DeLeon; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Tina Bradford, Sandra Dunman, Lucille Sherman, Lydia Davis, and Karen Peak, for the love, care, kindness, and support they gave our mom and our family. Your compassion and generosity meant more than words can express and we will forever be grateful

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at Allison Funeral Service Chapel, with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Worthy Cemetery in Shiloh.
