The City of Dayton is preparing to celebrate area seniors with a day of friendly competition, fellowship and fun, and organizers are asking the community to help make the inaugural event a success.
The 2026 Senior Olympics will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, with the City of Dayton partnering with South Liberty County Meals on Wheels and Agape Love for the event.
Organizers envision a day that will give seniors an opportunity to get active, enjoy some friendly competition and, perhaps most importantly, spend time together. Activities, games and awards will be part of the celebration, with the theme, “Active Today. Stronger Together.”
To help make the event possible, organizers are seeking businesses, churches, civic groups, organizations and individuals willing to contribute through donations or sponsorships.
Among the needs are T-shirts for participating seniors, food and drinks, awards and prizes, and financial support for activity stations. Organizers are also looking for event sponsors and vendors interested in participating.
Donations of all sizes are welcome, with several ways for community members and businesses to become involved.
The event is intended not only to provide a fun day for seniors but also to recognize a generation that has spent years contributing to families and communities throughout the area.
Organizers hope the Senior Olympics will bring those seniors together for plenty of laughter, fellowship and a little good-natured competition while reminding them how much they are appreciated.
