Alvin Maurel (Obie) O’Brien

Alvin Maurel (Obie) O’Brien, 74, of Dayton, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, in Houston, Texas.

Alvin was born on Aug. 4, 1952, in Houston, Texas, to Alvin M. O’Brien and Eileen Wolff O’Brien. A former resident of Jacinto City, he had made his home in the Dayton area since 1989. He was a graduate of Furr High School and attended the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy.

Throughout his life, Alvin served his community and worked in several fields. He served as a police officer for the City of Jacinto City, later worked as a medical billing engineer, and was with Pak Tank Chemical Corporation. He was a member of Dayton Masonic Lodge No. 825.

Alvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.

Mr. O’Brien was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Rose Marie Johnson and Eileen Dutton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen Reed O’Brien; his son, Scott O’Brien and wife Denise; his daughter, Autumn Garner and husband BJ; his sister, Tammy Jordan and husband Allen; his brother, Phil O’Brien; his grandchildren, Ashton Garner and fiancée Kayla Wallace, Keelin O’Brien, and Kehl Garner; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at Sterling Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery.

For those who desire, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to pancreatic cancer research or a pancreatic cancer charity of choice.
