Cleveland residents came together Thursday, Oct. 1, for National Night Out at Cleveland First Baptist Church, giving families a chance to enjoy the evening while meeting local law enforcement, businesses, and community organizations.
The annual event was held at the church at 300 W. Hanson Street and included food, tables, booths, and activities for families.
National Night Out is held each year across the country to bring communities and law enforcement together. It gives residents a chance to meet officers and other public safety officials in a more relaxed setting while also giving local businesses and organizations an opportunity to connect with their neighbors.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland Police Department, Cleveland Police Chief Broussard, Liberty County District Attorney Jennifer Bergman, Texas game wardens, Smith Towing, and more were among those who attended.
Pct. 6 Constable Zack Harkness said National Night Out is an event he looks forward to every year.
“National Night Out is a community event I look forward to every year,” Harkness said. “The local businesses, nonprofits, and organizations that participate always do a great job.”
Harkness said one of the things he likes most about the event is seeing families come out and enjoy the evening together.
“They do a great job making their booths family-friendly and giving parents a reason to bring their kids out and enjoy the evening. I know my twins look forward to it every year as well,” he said.
Harkness said organizers try to make the event a little better each year and already have some new ideas they are looking forward to adding next year.
