The Liberty County Historical Commission will meet Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto St. in Liberty. The public is invited to attend.
Guest speaker Fred Lemond, representing the Trinity Valley Exposition, has served in numerous leadership and volunteer roles at TVE for more than 15 years.
His commitment to the community extends well beyond TVE. He currently serves as president of the Liberty County ESD No. 2 Board of Commissioners and is actively involved in several ministries and leadership roles at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty.
A retired BP employee, Lemond continues to dedicate his time and expertise to organizations throughout Liberty County. He served as TVE president from 2022 to 2024 and remains active with the organization as a member of its E-committee.
On Oct. 30, 1909, the first Liberty County Fair was held on the courthouse square, where livestock and produce were exhibited and judged. Booths displayed canned goods, art, handiwork and agricultural products. A parade featured schoolchildren, decorated buggies, horses and wagons, with prizes awarded for the best decorations.
The fair began as an all-day affair with residents from across the county participating. Later, it expanded into a three-day exposition. In 1930, the fair moved to the fairgrounds two miles south of Liberty on FM 563, where it continued to grow. In 1939, the Liberty County Fair changed its name to the Trinity Valley Exposition.
Join the Liberty County Historical Commission to hear how this small-town fair evolved into TVE and learn about the organization’s work in the community today. For more information, email lchc318@gmail.com.
