A Dayton ISD bus driver arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a Woodrow Wilson Junior High student on Oct. 16 is now facing a second-degree felony charge following the student’s death.
Brantley Conner, who was struck by a vehicle while near the intersection of U.S. 90 and Stilson Road in Dayton, died Thursday, Oct. 22, six days after the collision.
The driver, identified by Dayton Police as Ricky Eugene Cherry, 70, of Dayton, has now been charged with Collision Causing Death, a second-degree felony.
The collision occurred between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, near the eastbound intersection of U.S. 90 and Stilson Road.
In the hours following the collision, the Dayton Police Department asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver involved. Investigators believed the driver had struck the student and left the scene without stopping to render aid.
Cherry was subsequently identified and arrested in connection with the incident.

I don’t care for the description of the incident. The age of driver is noticabley given in every article. If there’s a reason other then giving the public the assumption that the Seniors age was related, if it is then just say it. Did he even know he ran someone over, buses aren’t cars that you can feel, “I think I just hit something” thinking. And this shouldn’t matter but given the area was the child off the road or right there on it a step or two?
