James Fredrick DeBow Jr., lovingly known as Jim, joined his heavenly Father on Oct. 26, 2026, at the age of 46. He was born on June 10, 1980, in Houston, Texas. A Bible-believing Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, Jim will be remembered for the way he brought laughter, love, and warmth into the lives of those around him.
Jim had a personality that was unmistakably his own. He never wasted an opportunity to give praise when he saw something he liked or appreciated or give his opinion when he saw something he didn’t. He had a hard shell sometimes, but inside was a teddy bear. Jim kept in touch with every friend he ever knew. He leaves behind a legacy in his children that he was able to give them knowledge, discipline and skills that most kids do not possess in this day and age. He quoted every movie he ever saw and every person he ever spoke to, and he had a gift for doing perfect impressions of people. He enjoyed fishing, shooting, riding 4-wheelers, spending time with his family, and rewatching the same series over and over. Those who loved him will hold close the memory that he spent his last earthly weekend with sand between his toes and catching fish with his wife.
At the heart of Jim’s life was his family. Born and raised in Houston, Jim grew up surrounded by many different family trees, and that wide circle of love remained an important part of his story. He is survived by his wife, Emily DeBow, with whom he shared 11 years of marriage; and his children, Allison DeBow, Lincoln DeBow (Theriot), James DeBow III, Daniel DeBow, and Lillian Brunk, who were a cherished part of his life and the center of so many of his happiest moments.
He is also survived by his parents, Tina and James DeBow Sr., and Buddy and Kim Parker; and his siblings, Joseph DeBow and his wife Jenny Lyn, Christopher DeBow, Nicholas DeBow and his wife Rosemary Delgado, Ryan Parker and his wife Brittany, and Natalie Scillieri and her husband George. He is further survived by friends who became family that he held very close to his heart: David and Darlene Bounds, Virginia Wood, Dale Thorson, Stephen and Jennifer Jenkins and their daughter Rilynn, and Robert and Jennifer Zermeno and their son Chase; his fur babies, Dixie and the 3 Dudegez, but mostly Bunny; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving family members and treasured friends. Each of them shared in the life, laughter, and lasting bond that Jim carried with him throughout his years.
Jim is welcomed into the gates of heaven by his grandparents, Sam LaPerna Sr. and Louise LaPerna, Elvin and Teresa Parker, and Alfred DeBow Sr. and Wilma Joanne Power DeBow.
Jim will be remembered for his faith, his humor, his love of the outdoors, and the joy he found in simple and familiar things. More than anything, he will be remembered for the love he gave to his family and for the memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In honor of Jim’s memory, family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m., both being held at Church of Christ in Champions 13902 Cutten Rd Houston, TX 77069. Light refreshments to be served.
