A 23-year-old Montgomery County man is charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter related to an accident Saturday that claimed the life of a 54-year-old Cleveland man, Dennis Holllifield.
Around 8:30 p.m., authorities responded to Midline Road near Splendora where Hollifield, who was traveling west on Midline Road by bicycle, was struck by a westbound Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Fernando Symonds, 23, of Montgomery. Hollifield died at the scene.
“Mr. Hollifield was riding along and due to the weather and darkness, and an approaching vehicle’s speed, moved over to the left side of the roadway. Symonds passed the vehicle at a high rate of speed and struck Hollifield,” said Sgt. Erik Burse, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The accident was investigated by DPS.
A $100,000 bond has been set for Symonds. Currently he is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
