Local residents concerned about the proposed DeLa Express Pipeline by Moss Lake Partners are invited to a community meeting on June 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Ave., Cleveland.
The meeting will provide a platform for affected parties and stakeholders to delve into topics such as private property rights, public safety, and environmental impacts, and the potential repercussions that oil and gas exports have on energy prices.
Organized by the Habitat Recovery Project, the event seeks to raise awareness and foster dialogue regarding the proposed 42-inch pipeline designed to transport 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas liquids through Cleveland on a daily basis.
Habitat Recovery Project, a community-focused conservation movement that claims to work with local communities to push back against fossil fuel expansion throughout the Gulf Coast, is organizing the community meeting.
The interstate project, under the purview of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), is slated to convey natural gas liquids from the Delaware Basin to export facilities near Port Arthur, Texas, and Cameron Parish, La.
The pipeline is set to go through not only Liberty County, Texas, but also Bell, Brazos, Brown, Coke, Coryell, Ector, Falls, Glasscock, Grimes, Hardin, Jefferson, Loving, McLennan, Midland, Milam, Mills, Montgomery, Orange, Robertson, San Jacinto, Sterling, Upton, Walker and Winkler counties. The pipeline is in the pre-filling process.
“FERC has not released a list of potentially affected landowners on the right-of-way whose property may be taken by eminent domain although Moss Lake Partners has said those landowners are being contacted. Landowners on the route will be forced to sign an easement with Moss Lake Partners or be sued. This leaves landowners open to permanent easements, often with unfair conditions, and leaves them with liabilities that insurance often does not cover,” according to a the statement from Habitat Recovery Project.
