The Dayton High School pep rally on Friday, Aug. 30, featured more than just school spirit — it also showcased an entertaining display of dedication and student achievement.
Algebra I teacher Mr. Cruz made good on a promise to his students by allowing seven of them to shave his head in front of the entire school.
The bet, made last year, was simple: if Cruz’s students performed at a mastery level on their 2024 Algebra I STAAR EOC exam, they would earn the right to shave his head.
Not only did the students rise to the challenge, but they exceeded expectations, leading to the memorable event at the pep rally.
As cheers erupted from the stands, each of the seven students took turns shaving a strip of hair from Cruz’s head using clippers, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd. The moment celebrated both the students’ hard work and Cruz’s commitment to keeping his end of the bargain.
This event has left a lasting impression on Dayton High School, reminding students and staff of the power of encouragement and reward in the learning process.
Congratulations to the students for their remarkable achievement and to Mr. Cruz for delivering on his promise in such a creative and lighthearted way.
It’s a great day to be a Bronco!

Great show of support for the kids !
