Bryant Sterling

Bryant Sterling, 59, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Hospital on Nov. 25, 2024, surrounded by his children. Born on Sept. 8, 1965, in Liberty, Texas, Bryant was the son of Leon and Lorita Sterling. He graduated from Hull-Daisetta High school and furthered his education at Prairie View Texas A&M University earning his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to work for the Kansas City Plant.

Later, Bryant moved to Albuquerque to pursue a fulfilling career at Sandia National Laboratories, where he dedicated over 30 years of his life designing and developing hardware and software solutions for Nuclear Surveillance Testing and various satellite ground station missions. His work has had a lasting impact in these fields, and he was highly regarded by his colleagues and peers.He also served as a mentor to many, guiding and inspiring the next generation of engineers and professionals.

Bryant was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, mentor and friend. He is survived by his parents, Leon and Lorita Sterling; his siblings, Christopher Sterling, Darrell Sterling, and Frantarrell Sterling; and his children, Brittany Sterling, Alysha Rael, Ashley Mancha, Jose Benavidez, and Andrew Benavidez.His love and devotion to his family extended to his 17 grandchildren: Xavier Rael, Ezra Rael, Easton Rael, Sienna Rael, Sterling Rael, Luca Mancha, Lina Mancha, Scarlett Benavidez, Emily Benavidez, Anisa Benavidez, Aiden Benavidez, Jayce Benavidez, Rosendo Dillard, Alakai Benavidez, Kayla Barker, Josiah Bogle, and Treyden Bogle. He was also a proud godfather to Jessica Vallere, Isaiah Gonzalez, and Ryan Castillo, and a lifelong best friend to Jose Castillo.

Bryant was known for his no-nonsense personality and his passions. He had a deep love for his Jeep, enjoyed playing softball, and was a fan of western classics, the Food Network, and cooking. His hobbies also included woodworking, gardening, fishing, and golfing. Above all, Bryant had a playful side, and his family will fondly remember his “cute little dance” to his favorite song, Flashlight.
