Dayton’s Cyndie Abshire honored with DFPS Biggest Heart Award

Cyndie Abshire of Dayton holds the awards she received from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services after being named a 2026 Outstanding Volunteer and receiving the agency's Biggest Heart Award.

Some volunteers give their time. Others give their hearts.

This year, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services recognized Dayton resident Cyndie Abshire for doing both, naming her a 2026 Outstanding Volunteer during Volunteer Appreciation Week.

Abshire received the agency’s “Biggest Heart Award” on April 20 in recognition of her service to children, families and vulnerable adults.

According to DFPS, the award reflects the compassion, generosity and commitment Abshire brings to her volunteer work. Through her service, she has become a valued part of the agency’s efforts to support children and families in need.

DFPS works to strengthen families and communities while helping ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable Texans. Volunteers play an important role in supporting that mission.

The agency said Abshire’s dedication and caring spirit have made a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves and in the community she calls home.
